Friends of Maclay Gardens Recieves $1,000 Grant from New Leaf Market Co-op Community Fund

New_Leaf_Market The Friends of Maclay Gardens are one of two recipients in Tallahassee of a $1,000 grant from the New Leaf Market Co-op Community Fund. Grants are intended to promote local food production, a sustainable environment, and healthy lifestyles. Wendy Morgan, representative of the New Leaf Community Co-op Board, stated that the Friends’ proposal to enhance the Lake Overstreet Trail System in Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park was selected because of the significant impact the grant could have on providing healthy recreation in our community, especially considering the number of people who use the trails daily.

Grant funds will be used to purchase materials required to repair the connector trail between the Ravine Loop and the Lake Overstreet Loop of the Lake Overstreet Trail system. The Friends will match the grant with additional funding, and state park employees will perform the work. The project includes repairing existing damage and adding erosion control elements to enhance drainage and reduce the impact of future erosion events.
