Enjoy a Sunday evening of live jazz under a full moon on the lawn of the historic Maclay House in Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. November 5th The Friends of Maclay Gardens hosts the popular Moon Over Maclay Jazz Concert, presenting the Bakan-Margut-Hall World Trio and headlining the jazz sextet – The David Detweiler All-Stars featuring vocalist Shanice Richards.

The Bakan-Margut-Hall World Trio

The Bakan-Margut-Hall World Trio The Trio opens “Moon” with dynamic Brazilian choro, samba, and bossa nova mixed with West African grooves, Cuban rumbas and new renditions of jazz standards. FSU ethnomusicology prof, gamelan guru, and percussion whiz Michael Bakan has been shaking up Tallahassee with genre-bending musical innovations.

For Moon, his latest adventure brings together a supertrio with piano phenom Mason Margut and bass ace Brian Hall to push the blending of contemporary jazz and world music traditions to new frontiers. Pianist Margut has taken Tallahassee by storm since his recent arrival in town, while bassist Hall is a Tallahassee jazz favorite. Add to that energetic duo the ever-adventurous artistry of Bakan and you have a trio lineup to delight and inspire.

The David Detweiler All Stars

The David Detweiler All Stars The headliner “All Stars” sextet will be led by saxophonist David Detweiler, FSU professor of jazz saxophone and jazz studies having served as Director of Jazz Studies at New York’s Nazareth College.
