Experience a Sunday evening of live jazz and lively flamenco sounds under a moonlit evening on the lawn of the historic Maclay House in Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. The Friends of Maclay Gardens present the Maharajah Flamenco Trio and headliner Brian Hall Quintet at “Moon Over Maclay” Jazz Concert, Sunday, October 16, 2016.

Maharajah Flamenco Trio delivers a moving and dynamic expression of new Flamenco blending traditional Spanish rhythms with jazz, classical and world music. The Trio features Silviu Ciulei on guitar, bassist David Cobb, and percussionist Ramin Yazdanpanah. The Maharajah Flamenco Trio founded in 2011 by Silvio Ciulei appeared on NPR, has been featured artists for 2 years at the Southern Guitar Festival, performed at Florida State University’s annual Rainbow Concert a showcase of the great world music scene in Tallahassee, and soon appears at Washington College Eastern Shore Guitar Festival.

Brian_Hall_Quintet

The Brian Hall Quintet is led by Brian Hall on bass, Leon Anderson, drums, Chris Rochester, saxophone, Mason Margut, piano and the popular voice of Avis Berry. Brian is a jazz bassist and professor in the FAMU Music Department. He is a working musician and composer who has performed professionally up and down the east coast. Leon Anderson is Director of Jazz Studies at Florida State University. Leon is a leader of Tallahassee’s jazz scene and has performed with Marcus Roberts Trio, Wynton Marsalis and at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. He and Brian perform alongside the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra’s Jazz Ensemble. Avis Berry’s vocal style is described as “smooth, sweet and soulful”. Avis is a legendary singer accomplished in Jazz, Gospel, R&B and Classical Music. She has performed professionally in Vietnam and England and shared the stage with such greats as Dave Brubeck, Robert Shaw and Sherill Milnes.

The gate to Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park opens at 5 p.m. on event day and performances begin at 6 pm until 9 pm. Pack a picnic and your favorite drink, alcohol is permitted. Bring seating, chairs or blanket. Stroll up the brick walkway lined by artistic, handcrafted “Scarecrows In The Gardens” to the Maclay House for a fun evening of dynamic musical talent.

“Moon Over Maclay” is a fundraising event sponsored by the Friends of Maclay Gardens, Inc. whose mission is to support, protect and preserve Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park.
